ARKANSAS is the most dangerous state in the U.S. in which to give birth. Little to no paid leave. Lack of health care coverage. Mental health struggles. We don’t talk enough about the issues that are commonly faced by mothers and birthing people in the postpartum period.

Every Mother Counts presents Giving Birth in America: Arkansas, the seventh installment of the Giving Birth in America documentary series. The film paints a vivid picture of the reality of the postpartum period, when more than half of maternal deaths take place. The series examines the issues that have contributed to the maternal health crisis in the United States, where women are more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth than in any other high-resource country.
